FAQs

What is the Wyoming Virtual Library Consortia?

The Wyoming Virtual Library consortia consists of all 23 county libraries, The Wyoming State Library, University of Wyoming, and all the Community Colleges. The goal of the Libby collection is to address the education, information, and entertainment needs of all Wyoming residents. Each member library system helps fund the consortia by directly purchasing content from OverDrive.

Libby is an app owned by OverDrive that provides digital library content including books, audiobooks, and magazines.

Member Libraries make purchases in line with their local collection development policies and priorities. Each collection development policy will likely have nuanced differences that reflect the specific educational, informational and entertainment needs in their particular communities. However, in general librarians rely on professional reviews and patron purchase requests, and adding titles to manage hold lists, among other things when determining which titles to purchase for the collection.

Magazines are purchased as a complete package. The consortium does not have the ability to select or remove individual magazine titles.

Both the Wyoming Virtual Library website and the Libby App provide content filters that you can use to narrow to a particular audience (i.e. juvenile, young adult, etc.).

Yes. There are two ways to have access to what Libby books are checked out. First, the Libby App allows you to have more than one card at a time. So you can load your child’s card onto your app along with your own. Second is through the WyldCat app which allows you to link your account to your child’s. This allows you to see everything they have checked out on their card including items in Libby.

You can! Please contact your local member library and use their “request a purchase” process.

Each individual consortium member (e.g. county library system) purchases materials for the collection. The specific funds used will be dependent on the individual participating library. These funds may include county government allocations, mill levy funds, grants, or funding from the library’s Foundation or Friends group. Contact your participating member library to determine the exact funding they use.

Please review the request for reconsideration policy for Wyoming Virtual Library. Contact your local library with questions.
