View of the new addition from Charles Street.

Responding to needs from a rapidly growing community, the library is planning a new wing to best serve increased needs of the community. The new wing of the library has been designed by Carney Architects of Jackson, WY, who also designed the main building in Pinedale. It will feature Green Building techniques and will house a larger public meeting room, a Western History Room, and more public access computers.

Rammed earth insideSpring 2008: Weather Hampers Progress

These harsh winter months have not only brought impressive snowfall and made traveling difficult at times, they have hampered construction of the new wing of the library. But, progress is slowly being made on the main east and inside walls. Once these load-bearing are complete, then construction of inner walls and floors can get underway!

OutsideWinter 2007: The Building Begins

After about a three month delay for various reasons, the new wing of the library is well under construction. Right now we are enjoying watching the rammed earth process that will be a major part of the addition's walls.  One test wall is completed and will remain in place as an architectural feature. Meror Krayenhoff is the owner of Terra Firma of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. He and his son Joss are top experts in the field of rammed earth, and they were voted best builders in BC in 2000.
