A Smithsonian Exhibit
coming to the Sublette County Library
September 22—November 10, 2007
This
year, the Sublette County Library, in partnership with Museum
on Main Street and the Wyoming Humanities Council, will be
presenting “Between Fences”, a traveling Smithsonian
exhibition that explores the significance of fences and boundaries
in American culture. As part of the many events that will be presented
around the County in support of the exhibit, the Sublette County
Library will be hosting a Fence Art project to create a one of a
kind piece of community art in our County.
About
the Fence Post Art Show
Sublette County residents painted, decorated, did whatever arty
thing they could think of to homemade fence posts. Later this summer
they will be put with others to create a uniquely Pinedale work
of art. Prizes will be awarded for creative entries. Here are some
examples of the fence posts contributed. Click on the thumbnail

Fences
Film Festival
There will be a free film festival at the main library in Pinedale
showing movies that relate to the fences theme. All movies are G-rated
and everyone is welcome. Films will be shown in the Lovatt Community
Room at 7:30 pm.

Saturday, August 18th: Oklahoma (1955)
A couple of young cowboys win the hearts of their sweethearts
in the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century. Rated G.
Saturday, August 25th: The Big Country (1958)
An ex-ship captain arrives in the West to marry a rancher's
daughter and finds himself caught up in the middle of a feud with
a rival rancher. Starring Gregory Peck. Not rated.
Between Fences has been made possible in the Sublette County Library
by the Wyoming Humanities Council. This exhibit is part of Museum
on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution
and the Federation of State Humanities Councils. Support for Museum
on Main Street has been provided by the U.S. Congress, the John
S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and The Hearst Foundation.
Watch
for other exciting events connected with the Between Fences exhibit
this fall. Our partnering organizations will also be offering special
events. Watch for programs sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce,
Green River Valley Museum, Green River Valley Land Trust, Museum
of the Mountain Man, and The Pinedale Fine Arts Council.
